Driving a sustainable, productive and profitable future

By protecting and enhancing our region’s natural assets, FBA is working towards a future where people and landscapes thrive together.

Together, we turn ideas into action and build regional resilience through practical solutions

FBA collaborates closely with land managers, First Nations groups, industry, educators and policy makers, offering clear guidance and support across emerging technologies and evolving best practices.

Our work spans every corner of natural resource management. From improving soil health and water quality to protecting biodiversity and endangered species, we combine cutting-edge research with on-the-ground action. This balanced approach delivers both productivity and conservation.

The results are tangible: healthier waterways, thriving ecosystems, resilient agricultural enterprises and empowered communities making sustainable choices for generations to come.

Creating meaningful impact

FBA is committed to building a brighter future, today and for generations to come. Healthy, resilient waterways, landscapes and environments are our legacy. And we work with people across central Queensland to achieve it.

Connecting people

Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s working on Country, delivering structured projects, or hosting events and workshops, we create opportunities for people to share ideas, gain tools, and connect with one another.

Our FBA Team Turtle CQ program is a citizen science initiative where volunteers monitor marine turtle nesting along the Capricorn and Curtis coasts. By gathering valuable data and raising awareness, the program not only protects endangered species but also deepens community connection to the coast and its unique wildlife.

Protecting species

When it comes to threatened and endangered species, we harness the power of our connections and emerging technologies to make a difference.

This includes:

  • Using innovative tools like satellite tracking and AI image analysis to protect vulnerable species.

  • Breaking new ground with eDNA reptile management, detecting the elusive Ornamental Snake in Brigalow Country, together with TropWATER and James Cook University.

  • Partnering with First Nations groups and land managers to restore Brigalow ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, agriculture and cultural heritage.

Building healthy, resilient landscapes

By restoring ecosystems, improving soil and water health, and reducing runoff into the Fitzroy River, the largest flowing into the Great Barrier Reef, we help protect vital habitats, support communities, and safeguard the Reef for future generations.

FBA's work in Streambank and Land Repair is stabilising fragile landscapes and creating healthier, more resilient waterways.

Supporting land managers

Every landscape is unique, and so is every land manager. That’s why our support is tailored. We listen first, understanding individual goals and challenges, then provide practical advice, trusted resources, and on-the-ground support.

Our initiatives improve soil health, prevent erosion, and strengthen sustainable farming, helping the land and the people who care for it thrive long into the future.

Exploring sustainable and innovative solutions

FBA combines decades of experience in environmental science and land management with fresh thinking and a community-first approach to create sustainable, innovative solutions across the Fitzroy region.

In areas like regenerative agriculture and cutting-edge conservation tools, our outcomes include:

  • Improving water quality

  • Restoring habitats

  • Guiding land managers through change

Grounded in science and shaped by local knowledge, our work is designed for long-term impact.
