FBA is rolling out several projects that deliver on-ground environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management (NRM) initiatives.
Enhancing and Restoring Brigalow
Brigalow on a Central Queensland property
FBA is currently running four projects across the region that focus on enhancing or restoring brigalow landscapes and the species that rely on them. The aim is to deliver ecological, agricultural and cultural benefits. These projects are being delivered in partnership with First Nations peoples, graziers and land managers.
Protecting Koalas and King Blue Grass

Efforts to restore koala habitat in the Clarke-Connors Range and to support threatened King Blue Grass communities will also continue.
Restoring Landscapes Across the Fitzroy
Waterway Leader Braden Mitchell and Mick Alexander
Holistic landscape repair initiatives are set to expand across the Fitzroy. This work will include streambank restorations, gully repairs and improved grazing land management on surrounding properties. Together, these efforts are expected to prevent thousands of tonnes of fine sediment from reaching the coast each year.
Supporting Sustainable Grazing Practices
Land Management Officer Kate Wooley with a central Queensland land manager
Graziers will continue to receive support from FBA, including assistance to develop and implement tailored land management action plans that improve and maintain land condition, with a focus on improving ground cover and reducing soil loss and sediment runoff into waterways that flow to the Great Barrier Reef lagoon.
Upcoming Events for Land Managers
Cattle, Carbon and Cash Workshop at Lake Learmonth
Our event calendar is filling up fast with an exciting line up focusing on sustainable land management practices. These events will be held across FBA’s geographical footprint and will highlight practical actions that build resilience to climate change. Keep an eye on our events page for updates.
Inspiring Tomorrow’s NRM Leaders
Kristy Hateley, Laura Chapman, Annie May, Brianna Harrison, Charlie Smiley and Grace Wickson
Inspiring the next generation of young leaders remains an important part of our work in natural resource management. FBA will continue to introduce CQ high school students to the sector.
Protecting Turtles Through Citizen Science
Team Turtle CQ volunteers Ronald Hart and Karen Bowen Giles
FBA's Team Turtle Central Queensland (Team Turtle CQ) volunteers will invest hundreds of hours between now and March patrolling central Queensland beaches, recording vital data that contributes to long-term conservation outcomes.
With big projects in progress and more on the way, FBA is gearing up for a huge year of collaboration and impact across the region.
