Inspiring the Next Generation

Thanks to an FBA Community Grant, Stanwell State School has established an Agriculture Corner giving students a chance to get a hands-on feel for the ag industry.

Stanwell State School is a primary school, attended by 42 students, located 25km west of Rockhampton. Thanks to a dedicated Principal (Mrs Vicki Rogers), passionate P&C committee members and an enthusiastic community the school receive a 2022 FBA Community Grant to establish a garden.

The Agriculture Corner includes five fruit trees, a vegetable garden and an automatic watering system.

Enjoyed by students, teachers, parents and the wider Stanwell community, the garden is an opportunity to learn where food comes from and how to help create a sustainable environment. The project also aims to improve soil conditions (by increasing biodiversity), create a food source for the school’s bee hive, and provide the school tuckshop with fresh produce.

FBA’s RALF Officer, Sheree, visited Stanwell late last week to help put the finishing touches on the garden and teach the students about groundcover, soil health and how to plant a tree. The project is a fantastic example of what a passionate community can achieve when everyone lends a hand. FBA would like to thank the tireless efforts of Principal Rogers who envisioned this project and those from the school and community who helped her achieve such an impressive goal.

FBA and RALF Officer (Sheree) look forward to watching the Agriculture Corner grow and (hopefully) meeting some of these inspiring ag workers in the future!

The project is supported by FBA with funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
