Capricorn Caves Fern
Capricorn Caves Fern
Endangered under Queensland’s Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Australia’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
While it is commonly found in Sri Lanka and Vanuatu, Tectaria devexa, or the Capricorn Caves Fern is only found in Australia in The Caves district of Central Queensland.
Most commonly found near the entrances to limestone caves, this fern can sometimes also be found deeper in the cave system where natural light occasionally penetrates. In Australia, a recovery project has been successful in introducing a number of nursery-grown plants back into the wild near The Caves to help boost the plant, but ongoing monitoring is required.
