World Soil Day – “Halt soil salinisation, boost soil productivity”

World Soil Day 2021 (#WorldSoilDay) and its campaign “Halt soil salinisation, boost soil productivity” aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, fighting soil salinisation, increasing soil awareness and encouraging governments, organisations, communities and individuals around the world to commit to proactively improving soil health.

In Australia, soil constraints, such as sodicity, acidity and salinity are estimated to cost Australia more than $1 billion per year in lost production.

Better information and understanding of where the imbalances and constraints to production are occurring will allow government to better target investment and will assist farmers to change and improve land management practices which will boost soil health long term.
