Native Plants & Pest Management Workshops | Springsure

Workshop 1

NATIVE PLANTS INFO SESSION
Central Queensland is home to many important and threatened native plants. Semi-evergreen vine thicket is a diverse and unique ecological community that once thrived in central Queensland. Join local expert, Steve Elson, to learn about this bottletree scrub and ask questions about native vegetation. This is a great opportunity to learn about the benefits of native trees to grazing and cropping businesses and how you can reap the rewards.

Guest speaker:
Steve Elson | CQ Botanist
Steve has over 30 years of practical experience propagating, planting and restoring native vegetation. Steve is regarded as one of central Queensland’s ecology and botany experts.

When – Tuesday 27 June | 10:30am – 12pm
Where – Bauhinia Memprial Hall | Cnr Eclipse St & Porphyry St Springsure
Morning tea and lunch is provided. Please bring a notepad.

Workshop 2

SATELLITE TRACKING FERAL PIGS
Recently we’ve been tracking feral pigs in the Central Highlands area with GPS collars. As a result we have data on where they go and how they behave in different seasons and in response to different actions (for example an aerial shoot). Come along to see what we’ve discovered and how it will inform feral pig control in your region.

Guest speaker:
Darren Marshall | Southern Queensland Landscape
Darren leads vertebrate pest and wildlife management at Southern Queensland Landscapes. He has more than 20 years experience and now focuses on how new technologies can improve pest management.

When – Tuesday 27 June | 1:30pm – 3:30pm
