Managing weeds and pests in The Gemfields District

Weeds and feral animals do not follow fence boundaries. To stop them spreading, community members must work together. This workshop invites Gemfields landholders and community members to learn how to identify, treat and stop pests for more attractive and productive land.

Guest speakers:

Suzie Walters – Central Highlands Regional Council Ranger
Get to know your local council ranger! Suzie will discuss local weeds, common pests and how they spread.

Scotty Day – Private Contractor
Gain tips and tricks on how to quickly identify weeds. Plus, learn what new weeds The Gemfields region might soon see.

James Wetzler – Wetzler Weed Management and Site Maintenance
Watch two demonstrations and gain some hands-on skills on how to treat weeds and clean vehicles to stop the spread of pest plants.

Hannah Kaluzynski – FBA’s Project Officer (Environment)
Pest animals and weeds impact native species and important places. Learn about The Gemfields’ region’s threatened animals and why they need protecting.

Vicki Horstman – FBA’s Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitator
Vicki works with communities across CQ to help them find solutions to shared problems. Forming a Landcare group in a community encourages locals to work together to achieve region-wide results. Vicki will explain available opportunities.
