Flyways – Movie Screening
The latest film from Director Randall Wood, Flyways, opens on a spectacular sunrise in Moreton Bay.
We’re starting on a journey, to capture, tag, release and follow the largest migratory shorebird in the world – the Eastern Curlew; which is notoriously hard to pin down, and devastatingly running short on numbers. The Curlew, like the other migratory shore birds we follow in the film, are at risk of a number of man-made factors, such as climate change, and coastal development.
The Eastern Curlew can fly for five days without landing, and travels 13,000 km from Australia to North Asia. The Red Knot has a range of 9,000 km and has won many hearts with it’s beautiful red plume. The Hudsonian Godwit can fly for 7 days without stopping. We are taken to Australia, Africa, China, Chile, Alaska and Siberia, and together we learn the secrets of their migration.
This special screening will include an exclusive Q+A portion with local reputable scientific experts: Ted Wnorowski – Gladstone. Allan Briggs – Yeppoon. We are also hoping to have capabilities to have director Randall Wood join us via satellite.
