Lilley’s Beach is a 8km stretch of beach which is a marine turtle and shorebird nesting habitat and can be accessed at low tide provided you have a permit issued by the Gladstone Regional Council and comply with the rules.
Each year we have a dedicated group of volunteers who join our Tangaroa Blue Foundation Coordinators to remove debris from the entire beach. We then sort and count for data entry into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative database.
Once again Boyne Smelters Limited will be supporting our event by providing refreshments for our volunteers at Wyndham Park after the cleanup.
Lilley’s Beach may be accessed by Four Wheel Drive only (motorbikes prohibited). It is best to travel at low tide or within 2 hours either side of the low tide. Driving on dunal areas is strictly prohibited.
Permits are required prior to accessing Lilley’s Beach and must be carried in the motor vehicle at all times whilst in the area. Permits can be purchased from GRC offices or online.
Anyone who can’t make it on the day but wishes to participate at an alternative time are more than welcome to leave any bags of debris outside the skip located in the Wyndham Park carpark.
