There’s a lot that happens between cattle leaving the paddock and arriving at the processor — and the decisions made along the way can influence animal welfare, biosecurity, transport conditions and ultimately the condition cattle arrive in.

Paddock to Processor is a three-part webinar series for CQ beef producers, bringing together industry experts from across the supply chain to share practical advice, current risks and what they’re seeing on the ground.

Across three sessions, hear perspectives from animal health, biosecurity, livestock transport and processing specialists, and gain a better understanding of the considerations that can make a difference before cattle leave the property, while they’re on the road and when they arrive at the meatworks.

Day 1
Preparing cattle for the journey

Tue 24 Nov | 12pm – 1pm

Getting the most from your cattle vaccination program

Leon will share practical advice around cattle vaccination, including vaccination protocols, timing and common considerations for producers. Learn how a well-planned vaccination program can support herd health and help reduce preventable animal health issues.

Leon Buchanana from Zoetis

Biosecurity risks to have on your radar

Mackenzie and Doug will explore current and emerging biosecurity risks relevant to CQ cattle producers, with a focus on what to consider when preparing cattle to leave the property and enter the supply chain.

Hear what producers should be watching for, steps that can help reduce risk, and why good biosecurity practices matter well beyond the farm gate.

Mackenzie Leeson & Doug McNaught from the Department of Primary Industries (DPI)

Day 2
From loading ramp to processor

Wed 25 Nov | 12pm – 1pm

Setting cattle up for a better journey

Good transport outcomes start well before the truck leaves the property.

Athol will share practical insights into preparing and loading cattle for transport, including animal welfare, safe handling and ways producers can help reduce stress during the journey to the meatworks.

Hear from the transporter’s perspective about the small considerations that can make a big difference when cattle hit the road.

Athol Carter from Frasers Livestock Transport

What processors are seeing when cattle arrive

What happens when cattle come off the truck at the other end?

John will provide a processor perspective on cattle arriving at the meatworks, sharing observations from the receival end of the supply chain and highlighting factors that can influence animal welfare and cattle condition on arrival.

This session will help connect decisions made on-property and during transport with what processors are seeing firsthand.

John Langbridge from Teys

Connecting the journey from producer to processor

Drawing on his experience in cattle handling and the development of StockShift, Nic will explore the connections between producers, livestock transporters and processors.

Hear how better communication and coordination across the supply chain can support cattle movements and help each part of the journey work more effectively.

Nic Perkins from StockShift

Day 3
Q&A session

Thu 26 Nov | 12pm – 1pm

Got questions? Bring them!

Join our five speakers for a live panel session Q&A

All presenters will return for a live facilitated panel discussion and Q&A, giving producers the opportunity to dig deeper into the topics covered throughout the series, raise issues relevant to their own operation and hear practical advice from different parts of the beef supply chain.

Come prepared with your questions and make the most of direct access to the experts.

Please note: This live Q&A session will not be recorded.
