Justin Cagney
Justin Cagney is a Director with the Queensland Department of Environment and Science and is responsible for delivering the department’s compliance and enforcement function within the Environmental Services and Regulation Division in Central Queensland.
Justin leads a team of 57 staff located across offices in Mackay, Rockhampton, Emerald, Gladstone and Maryborough, responsible for compliance and enforcement of coal mining approvals and other environmentally relevant activities under the Environmental Protection Act 1994. The team provides compliance services including proactive compliance programs and reactive environmental and emergency incident response from Bowen in the north to Maryborough in the south, and extending inland throughout central western Queensland. This area includes the Fitzroy River Basin, the vast majority of Queensland coal mines (including the Galilee Basin), major industry in the Gladstone region and port operations from Bundaberg to Abbot Point.
Justin commenced employment with the Queensland Government in 2006. Justin was appointed to the FBA Board in 2017.
