Swap the wifi for wildlife wonder

Fitzroy Basin Association’s FLOW Visitor Centre is offering kids and parents a break from wi-fi with a range of free school holiday workshops this month to showcase the wondrous wildlife in our own backyard.
From the world’s heaviest insect species to wombats, wallabies and fearful frogs, there will be information and learning rolled up into fun for children, parents and grandparents.
Fitzroy Basin Association Inc. Engagement Officer Sharyn Lowth said the workshops are always a hit with parents and children over the school holidays.
“We have a number of regulars at our workshops, and we continue to attract new children and families due to the range of fun and free activities on offer,” Mrs Lowth said.
“FLOW will host sessions about wombats, wallabies and frogs facing extinction, while also joining with Little Aussie Encounters to bring some local creepy crawlies and creatures to some of the workshops, for kids to see and touch.
“FLOW Visitors Centre is a free and interactive centre, right in the heart of Rockhampton in the Old Post Office building, corner of East and Denham Streets, next to Degani’s Cafe.
“The centre is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm with a range of travelling exhibitions from the Queensland Museum also on offer over the school holidays.
“The workshops are popular so we urge visitors to book for these school holiday sessions to avoid disappointment,” she said.
Workshop titles include ‘Wallaby Detective – what is the small macropod back from extinction in CQ?’, ‘What is on a wombat wishlist?’, ‘A fearful frog faces extinction’ and ‘Live wildlife visitors – see and touch some creepy crawlies and things that hop’.
