FBA releases Pasture Budgeting in Central Queensland book

Pasture budgeting is a technique used by landholders to understand their current land condition, and work towards its improvement.
Fitzroy Basin Association Inc. (FBA) has published a book ‘Pasture Budgeting in Central Queensland’ to guide CQ landholders through assessing their properties.

At its most fundamental level, a pasture budget allows a landholder to determine how long a paddock of grass will last.

“The key to good grazing land management is matching stocking rates to carrying capacity,”
says FBA’s Grazing Coordinator Reece Brooks.
“This Pasture Budgeting book is a handy, glovebox-sized reference tool to help make pasture budgeting as simple as it can be for our local graziers.”

The 82 page full colour book features pasture types, photo standards, a basic stocking rate calculator and instructions on how to pasture budget.
It is designed for durable use in the paddock, so that graziers can compare the featured photographs with their own onground scenario.

The following pasture types are featured in the booklet:

Bluegrass
Box Eucalypt
Buffel
Coastal Blackspear
Coastal Buffel
Forest Bluegrass Woodland
Forest Bluegrass Woodland with Stylo
Indian Couch
Marine Couch
Pangola Grass
Para Grass
Rhodes Grass
Signal/ Uroachloa Grass
Spotted Gum Woodlands
