Set to air on Wednesday, August 7, this episode is part of “Barrier Breakers” – the third season of FBA’s exclusive podcast series – that tells the stories of communities protecting the Great Barrier Reef.

With all marine turtle species in Australian waters under threat of extinction, and Central Queensland hosting six of the world’s seven marine turtle species, the need for action is critical. Capricorn Coast is a known nesting and hatching territory for marine turtles and Team Hatchlings is leading the charge to protect them with their “lights out, turtles about” campaign.

Each guest on the podcast shares how their small actions to raise community awareness is creating momentum towards positive change.

Listeners will hear from Team Hatchlings members Owen Harris and Sienna Donaldson, as well as FBA Officer Rebecca French, about the group’s achievements and future goals.

Team Hatchlings is a youth-lead initiative making a tangible impact on the survival of these endangered and vulnerable animals. The group is keen to welcome new members to support their conservation initiatives.

Parents with school-aged children interested in joining this dynamic volunteer group are encouraged to contact FBA to get involved.

This podcast series “Barrier Breakers” has been produced by FBA as part of the Fitzroy Water Quality Program.

The Fitzroy Water Quality Program is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, with support from FBA.
