Land management evolution at Dovecot, CQ

GRAZIER Louis Moore, of Dovecot, has improved operations so remarkably upon his 4700ha property near Mount Morgan, he has been recognised as a finalist at the annual Reef Alliance Awards.
In 2001, Dovecot resembled a very different operation comapred to it’s present state.
With only 2 water points and 3 paddocks running 200 Adult Equivalent (AE), the frequent overgrazing resulted in high levels or erosion and sediment run-off.
In 2017, following Grazing BMP accreditation and one-on-one support with a Land Management Officer from FBA, the game has changed for the Dovecot enterprise.
The property now boasts 25 extra water points, over 40km of additional fencing and consequently, 15 newly created paddocks.
Dovecot is therefore experiencing an increase in pasture diversity, carrying capacity and productivity.
Currently, stock numbers are at 320AE on a 400ha parcel of improved country, with great potential to continue to increase stock numbers in the future.
