Capricorn Coast Community Action Plan

The Community Action Plan (CAP) contains local-scale initiatives, as envisaged by Capricorn Coast community members, that seek to support action at a Reef-wide scale for protection and resilience of the World Heritage Area. The CAP facilitated opportunities for collaboration and relate to the objectives of a range of local, regional and Reef-wide plans.

  • Increase human connection and environmental stewardship through an intergenerational permaculture project
  • Community composting facility to reduce emissions from food waste on the Capricorn Coast

  • Establish dolphin citizen science initiative and dolphin spotter trail to support associated coastal zones

These initiatives comprise the first collaborative Community Action Plan (CAP) documenting shared priorities for Reef protection on the Capricorn Coast.

All Community Action Plans were developed using the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation framework. The framework is an internationally renowned best-practice standard for collaboratively planning and managing projects with a natural and cultural resource management focus.
